Boys - latest page for http://invitation-to-scrap.com.au/

My latest page designing for

Boys
Products used - Kaisercraft Technologic paper, stickers and collectables, Dusty Attic? Chipboard, Tim Holtz Silver Crackle paint, Black Stazon.

This was a very challenging layout for me. I don't often work with papers that are very robotic like this range, choosing to work with vintage or brights instead and It really pushed me to create something different. This photo is of my husband and son, standing in front of a boring background which really didn't show the emotion in the moment so I edited to make it more interesting.

Having said that it was so much fun to work with the chicken wire chippy. I wanted it to be a metal finish without just being silver paint so I used Tim Holtz Metallic Crackle then rubbed black Stazon over it to make it more rustic and flat. Cutting it up was really foreign for me as I usually keep my chipboard elements whole but it really didn't fit the page as one piece. This will be a technique that I will be doing a lot more of with my other chipboard elements. It was so easy, effective and economical to cut it up and make one piece stretch further.

I hope you pop on over to An Invitation to Scrap and check out the awesome range of chippies Deb has on offer. Try stepping out of your comfort zone too and chop them up. I know you want to ;)

OUT FOR PUBLICATION

I have the most exciting news to share. I had originally created a layout to put in this post but I cant share it with you yet and need to keep it secret for a while longer because a prominant Scrapbooking Magazine has requested it for option to publish in one of their upcoming editions. I have never been published so this is a totally amazing experience for me. And to make it even more exciting but they actually want to check out TWO of my layouts.  So there wont be any photos in this post.

What else can I add here then? Well, my new job as manager at Kaisercraft is getting more awesome every day, I'm loving everything about it and my kids have settled into their new routine with mummy working full time.   The sale days are my favourite and most rewarding part because I love all the planning involved in making everything come together. I'm a planner and organiser naturally and although I know there will be challenging days ahead I thrive on it and still believe it was the best choice I ever made stepping up!

Hmmmmm, it's mothers day here tomorrow so I am looking forward to a day of doing not much more than sleeping in and scrapping. I will just have to ignore the piles of washing, the dirty dishes and mountain of housework that needs to be done :)

Happy Mothers Day to all the mums out there and hope it's a great day for all of you!

Explore Forever - Sketch 131 Lets Capture Our Memories

I am so in love with this layout. When I first saw the sketch I knew it was going to be awesome to create with but then I got sick with a terrible stomach bug and thought I had missed the deadline to submit it. I decided the sketch was too good to not use so I made this layout anyway and managed to get it completed and submitted in time.

The paper products I used were all Kaisercraft from 'These Days' range. I did use Tim Holtz distress inks to give the edges an aged look. The photos are of my son when he was playing on the boat while it was up on the sand. He didnt like it much when it was on the water but loved to play pretend when it was on dry land. I would like to have written more journaling but it just didn't suit this page.

I have been leaning more towards flat layouts lately and I am quite enjoying it. Sometimes they dont turn out quite how I imagined it in my head but its fun all the same and I can churn out a few more than when they are heavily embellished.

Pop on over to http://www.letscaptureourmemories.com/forum/index.php and give the sketch a go too. Thanks for checking out my blog and don't forget to leave me some love in the comments section.

OMG its May already

WOW, I can't believe it's May already. This is just a short post. I have been so slack on this blog last month but I do have some excuses. Firstly I was away for a few weeks on holiday, I have been sick and then my new job as manager has kept me very busy finding my feet. I am LOVING going to work every day and thriving with all the challenges. I am still creating though and will have a few pages to share in my next post.

An Invitation to Scrap - Twiddleybitz Birdcage

Just one more quick post.
Deb at an http://invitation-to-scrap.com.au/ supplied me with this awesome Twiddleybitz birdcage to design a cute page and this is what I came up with using the new range from Kaisercraft 'Fine and Sunny' and I think it looks pretty sweet.
The cage is covered in white Kaisercraft paint and the bird is covered in yellow kaisercraft paint, then when almost dry a layer of green over the top layer of the bird to give it a softer tone. Then to finish it off some dimensional magic. I love this layout. It was simple to create and so bright and cheerful. I hope you like it too :)

Sketch 287 - Scrapbook Challenges

This one was a lot of fun

I flipped it so the journal area was on the top and pushed the two photos on the bottom to one side and enlarged the flower cluster. I also added an extra picture (yes, unusual for me as I'm more often using less pictures than required) in the top.

Now I know I have preached before about trying to use your own hand writing when you are journaling because it's a part of you and thats what people want in years to come but my husband Jade has neater handwriting than me so he kindly offered to write it for me. I think he did a pretty good job (although I did tell him what to write).

The title is a combination of a Kaisercraft Rubon and a chipboard word (five kids and a dog brand). I used blue Tim Holtz crackle paint (have you worked out yet that I LOVE this stuff) then rubbed over it with brown staz on ink (so in LOVE with this ink too).

The paper is Prima Londonderry which I have backed onto an orange sheet of Kaisercraft Cardstock. I think the combination of the orange and blue colours work really well with the photos of my son playing with his 'bities'. He loved catching those yabbies and playing with them until they were dead and falling apart. At least it kept him amused when things got a little boring for him when we were camping.
And there is of course the 'very me' flower cluster. I just love the colours in this, so earthy and warm. Suits the location the photos were taken (Western Queensland near Charleville)
